FNAM accuses ULS and the Ministry of Health of “inertia” and guarantees that the situation worsens difficulties in securing doctors. Order says hospital lost training capacity, more than 1000 appointments were canceled or postponed.
10 surgeons from the Amadora-Sintra hospital resigned following a “workplace harassment situation by two doctors at the service” led to the dismissal of 10 surgeons.
The was published this Wednesday by the National Federation of Doctors (FNAM) and guarantees that “this departure worsens the difficulties in fixation of doctors surgeons, making any attempt to rebuild the surgical team even more difficult.”
The union refers to what has been going on since last year, when another 10 doctors left the service after two doctors who reported bad practices in service in 2023.
The two doctors were then removed from the unit for having improperly obtained access to clinical files and patient data.
“More than a thousand appointments were cancelled, with no new date expected, also affecting the monitoring of cancer patients”, says the FNAM.
The union also accuses the board of directors of the local health unit (ULS) and the Ministry of Health itself of “inertia” which proved to be “fatal for the maintenance of a fundamental service, depriving the population of these two municipalities of access to surgical assistance.”
A FNAM “requires an immediate and concrete response” by minister Ana Paula Martins.
“The FNAM firmly condemns the workplace harassment carried out by two doctors, one of them a former service director, which created an unstable environment and limited the professional practice of an entire team”, the text also says.
Last week, the Medical Association declared that Amadora-Sintra was unable to guarantee training of ten resident doctors, remembers, something that the management of hospital deniedstating that it maintains training capacity and recalling that it recently hired 12 doctors for the emergency service.
