Miguel Arruda allegedly stole suitcases from the arrivals luggage carousels at Lisbon and Ponta Delgada airports for several months, when traveling to and from the Azores at the beginning and end of the parliamentary work week.

The PSP is carrying out searches this Tuesday afternoon at the houses of Chega’s deputy Miguel Arruda in Lisbon and São Miguel, in the Azores, advances, due to suspicions of qualified theft and against property.

The PSP indicates that Chega’s deputy was not detained, making it necessary to lift his parliamentary immunity. However, the crime you are suspected of is punishable by prison sentence of up to five years or 600 days of fine and the Assembly of the Republic is obliged to lift the immunity of the deputy elected by the Azores constituency.

The PSP also says that the investigation is not related to the functions that Miguel Arruda holds as a deputy in the Assembly of the Republic.

According to the Public Security Police, searches of Arruda’s homes have been carried out since midday and are being carried out by the criminal investigation of the Lisbon Metropolitan Command, as part of an inquiry led by the Lisbon Department of Investigation and Criminal Action.
