Event in Planalto will feature congressmen, but will be absent from minister Alexandre Silveira (Mines and Energy), who is in Switzerland
The president (PT) will sanction this Wednesday (22 January 2025) the (Energy Transition Acceleration Program), which creates financing mechanisms to encourage the production of clean and renewable energy to the detriment of fossil fuels.
The ceremony, at Palácio do Planalto, will be at 4pm. It will not feature the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, who is in Switzerland for the World Economic Forum in Davos. Its executive secretary, Arthur Cerqueira Valério, will attend the event. The deadline for the sanction was January 22.
The program is part of Congress’ so-called “green agenda”, declared as one of the priorities of the year for the Houses. Paten creates a guarantee fund for sustainable development, the so-called Green Fund. It will enable the financing of projects in the area to allocate resources to initiatives that promote the energy transition and sustainability.
The fund will be administered by the (National Bank for Economic and Social Development). The use will be exclusive to projects linked to the program – States, municipalities and the Federal District will be able to access the resources through agreements with the Union. In practice, it allows enterprises to access resources at reduced costs.
PATEN INCENTIVES
Paten creates financing incentives for infrastructure projects that aim to produce renewable fuels – such as BioQAV (aviation biokerosene), ethanol, biomethane and low-carbon hydrogen – and CCS (carbon capture and storage) activities. Proposals for expanding the production of solar, nuclear, wind, biomass, biogas and natural gas energy will also be considered.
Companies that join the program will be able to access resources from the FNMC (National Fund on Climate Change) and renegotiate debts with the Union through investments in sustainable development projects.
