Dirt and streaks make it difficult to see, scratches make them less functional, but we may often be unaware of how best to clean these types of products so that they last as long as possible. Contrary to appearances, wet wipes for glasses available in stores, especially those containing alcohol, are not the best choice.
To clean your glasses, use a delicate microfiber cloth – you can wipe your glasses dry when you’re out and about. At home, you should use soap and water. Importantly, wash your glasses with warm water – not boiling water. If there is more dirt on them, it is worth using a delicate detergent, e.g. standard hand soap. You can use your hand or a cloth to wash your glasses, thoroughly cleaning the frames and lenses. Soap residues should be rinsed with running water. Dry the glasses with a dry cloth.
In the case of anti-reflective glasses, use only water or buy detergent intended for this type of glasses at an optical salon. When washing your glasses with your hands, remember to use your fingertips (circular movements), so as not to scratch them with your nails. Sunglasses are also better cleaned with just water or a liquid designed specifically for them.

Often, when we have paper or paper towels close to us, we may want to use them to clean our glasses, but we should not do this. These products have a rough surface and, especially when used regularly, may scratch the glass. We should not use window cleaning fluid to clean glasses — the ingredients contained in this detergent may destroy the protective layer on the glasses.
Hygienic wipes are also not the best choice — they seem to be delicate, but we should not use them to clean glasses. In addition any rough materials should be avoided — wiping your glasses with your blouse is also not a good idea. Additionally, when buying detergents for cleaning glasses, it is better to choose ordinary products with a simple composition, e.g. soap or dishwashing liquid, or buy specialized preparations in an optical salon.
Wipes or liquids containing alcohol available in supermarkets may do more harm than good. It is also important to store your glasses in a case and not place them glass side down.
