The (Attorney General’s Office) denounced Leonardo Rodrigues de Jesus, on January 8, 2023.
He was arraigned on charges of five felonies. They are: armed criminal association, attempted violent abolition of the democratic rule of law, coup d’état, qualified damage and deterioration of listed property.
The PGR also asks him to pay a fine to repair the damage, with an amount to be fixed. The information was confirmed by UOL.
It is now up to the STF to accept or reject the complaint. If accepted, Léo Índio will become a defendant, the target of a criminal action, which involves collecting evidence and statements from the prosecution and defense. It is only at this stage that the court decides whether to convict or acquit him.
He published a photo on Instagram of the Congress ceiling on the day of the invasion. With the repercussion, he edited the caption to justify his presence and attribute the destruction of the buildings of the Three Powers to the left. To date, there is no evidence of the existence of “infiltrators” in acts of vandalism.
“Leonardo Rodrigues de Jesus […] destroyed and contributed to the destruction, disablement and deterioration of the Union’s assets, by advancing against the headquarters of the National Congress, doing so with violence to the person and serious threat, use of flammable substances and generating considerable damage to the Union”, says an excerpt from the complaint, signed by the Attorney General of the Republic, Paulo Gonet.
The complaint also says that there is sufficient evidence that Léo Índio participated in this and other anti-democratic activities. Among them, demonstrations in camps in front of military units after the 2022 elections and participation in WhatsApp groups with this theme.
Léo Índio is the cousin of the former president’s three eldest sons (): senator Flávio, councilor Carlos and federal deputy Eduardo. He is the nephew of Bolsonaro’s first wife, Rogéria Nantes, and is closer to Carlos Bolsonaro (PL-RJ), with whom he once shared a house.
UOL tries to contact Léo Índio’s defense. If there is a response, the text will be updated.
