In 2024, Disque (Disque 100) registered a total of 2,472 complaints related to religious intolerance, according to data from the Ministry of Human Rights and Citizenship (MDHC). This number represents a significant increase of 66.8% compared to the previous year, 2023. Since 2021, reports have grown by an impressive 323.29%. The data reveals that the groups most affected by acts of intolerance include Umbanda, with 151 cases, followed by Candomblé, which accounted for 117. Other religions affected were evangelicalism, with 88 complaints, Catholicism, with 53, and spiritualism, with 36 , and Islam, which had 6 records. The majority of identified victims are women, totaling 1,423.

The states that reported the most cases of religious intolerance were São Paulo, with 618 reports, followed by Rio de Janeiro, which registered 499, and Minas Gerais, with 205. These numbers highlight the need for a careful look at the issue of religious diversity in the country.

The Minister of Human Rights, Macaé Evaristo, emphasized the importance of the State’s secularism and respect for different beliefs. She also recalled that the Day to Combat Religious Intolerance, established by Federal Law No. 11,635/2007, is a date that honors Mother Gilda de Ogum, a figure who faced persecution for her faith. Reports of religious intolerance can be made via Dial 100, which is available 24 hours a day. In addition to this channel, citizens can also use platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram to report cases. It is important to highlight that reports are free, anonymous and provide a protocol number so that complainants can monitor the progress of their complaints.
