Black Friday and end-of-year sales increase the performance of the commerce sector among small and medium-sized companies
Brazilian SMEs (small and medium-sized companies) showed growth of 3.3% in the last quarter of 2024, according to the (Omie SME Economic Performance Index). The index also showed a slowdown compared to the 5.5% increase in the 3rd quarter.
IODE-PMEs indicated a 0.9% reduction in average financial transactions in December 2024, compared to the same period of the previous year.
The Commerce sector was the positive highlight, with growth of 7.1% in December, driven by Black Friday and end-of-year sales. Products such as mattresses, travel items and toys were in high demand. The Infrastructure sector also recorded growth of 3.1% in the same month, with emphasis on waste collection and treatment and electricity generation.
On the other hand, Industry and Services faced downturns. The revenue of industrial SMEs fell 5.4% in December, with only six of the 23 monitored subsegments showing an increase. Services SMEs had a 1.9% reduction in their revenue, despite growth in some areas such as transport, storage and health.
