In an interview with CNNlawyer Celso Vilardi said that the Federal Supreme Court (STF) needs to review “all acts” of the Federal Police (PF) investigations against former president Jair Bolsonaro (PL) and asked for a “technical” trial.
This year, Vilardi joined the defense of Jair Bolsonaro in cases against the former president in the STF.
“It is clear that the trial of a President of the Republic, in a polarized country like ours, has political repercussions,” declared Vilardi.
“Now, one issue is the political repercussions. The trial cannot be political: it has to be technical, because we have the Code of Criminal Procedure, we have the Constitution”, he declared.
Bolsonaro’s new lawyer said he recognized that the STF is still in a “state of shock” due to the criminal attacks of January 8, 2023, but pointed out: “the Supreme Court was attacked on January 8 as an institution, but not by my client”.
“Now, it is time for serenity. There is no problem for a technical judgment”, he concluded.
The Supreme Court cannot make a political judgment. The Supreme Court has to make a technical judgment, with impartial judges who will receive a case and will effectively judge according to the process
