US President Donald Trump on Wednesday called the episcopal bishop of Washington “disgusting” and demanded an apology. He responded to her sermon in the Washington National Cathedral that sows fear among immigrants and LGBTQ people in the countrywrites TASR according to an AFP report.
“The so-called bishop, who spoke on Tuesday morning as part of the national prayer, was a radical leftist who hates Trump,” wrote the president on his social network Truth Social.
“She brought her church into the world of politics in a very unsparing way. She had a nasty tone and was neither persuasive nor clever.” Trump wrote after the service following the presidential inauguration. It was led by Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde at the Washington National Cathedral.
Trump issued the orders on Monday to suspend the arrival of asylum seekers to the country and deport migrants who are in the US illegally. His new administration disabled an app called CBP One that allowed for pre-screening of asylum seekers before entering the US. He also decided that the US government under his leadership will recognize only “two sexes – male and female”.
Trump sat in the first pew of the church next to his wife Melania during the inauguration service. Buddeová addressed the president during the sermon, “to have mercy on the people in our country who are now frightened”. After the service, Trump responded that “she was not good”, writes AFP.
The President on Social Truh slandered the bishop without naming her directly. “Besides her inappropriate statements, this service was very boring and lifeless. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology,” he added.
The bishop has criticized Trump in the past “used sacred symbols”while “held positions that contradict the Bible”.
