US President Donald Trump on the Truth Social social network on Wednesday called on his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, to come to an agreement to end the war in Ukraine as soon as possible. Otherwise, the United States according to Trump will impose “high taxes, duties and penalties” on everything, what Russia sells to them and other countries. TASR informs about it.

“I don’t want to hurt Russia. I like Russians and I have always had very good relations with President Putin. We must never forget that Russia helped us win World War II, while losing almost 60 million lives,” Trump wrote in the post. In this context, he further said that he was going to Russia, whose economy, according to him, is failing. At the same time, he asked Putin for a “kindness”. “Settle it and stop this ridiculous war! It’s only going to get worse.” emphasized the old American president.

He also repeated his claim that if he, and not Joe Biden, had been president during the previous election period, the war in Ukraine would not have happened at all. “We can do it the easy way or the hard way – and the easy way is always better. It’s time to make a deal. No more lives should be lost!” emphasized Trump.

On Monday after the inauguration, he spoke about the fact that Putin is “ruining Russia” by still not agreeing to end the war. According to Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is willing to come to an agreement. In the campaign before the presidential election, Trump declared several times, that he will reach an agreement between Russia and Ukraine on his first day in office, if not sooner – which ultimately did not happen.

In late October, he made a subtle shift in rhetoric and began saying that he can solve the war “very quickly”. After being elected, he softened it even more and says that he will simply “solve” the conflict. He has not yet indicated a specific plan. Trump advisers contacted by Reuters did not despite his previous promises to quickly end the war in Ukraine they now admit that this will take several months, if not longer.
