Azul Linhas Aéreas suspended operations in 12 cities in the country, most of them in the Northeast. The cities of Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and Santa Catarina are also affected.
The company attributed the suspension to “a series of factors ranging from the increase in aviation operating costs, impacted by the global crisis in the supply chain and the rise in the dollar, added to issues of fleet availability and supply and demand adjustments “.
Operations will be suspended from March 10th in Campos dos Goytacazes and Cabo Frio (RJ); Correia Pinto (SC); Crateús, São Benedito, Sobral and Iguatu (CE); Mossoró (RN); São Raimundo Nonato and Parnaíba (PI); Rio Verde (GO); and Barreirinha (MA).
According to the company, the measure is part of a process of “adjusting capacity to demand”. “The company is always evaluating market possibilities and needs and, consequently, changes are part of operational planning”, says the company.
In other places, the company decided to make adaptations. Juazeiro do Norte, in Ceará, will no longer have flights to Fortaleza and Azul. The city of Ceará will only have connections to Campinas by the company from March 10, with a frequency increased from four to seven weekly flights.
On March 3rd, the -Natal route will be suspended. The archipelago will only be connected to Recife via Azul. , the operation only takes place using ATR planes, as jet flights are prohibited in Noronha.
Azul’s measure generated reactions in Noronha. The president of the archipelago’s district council, Ailton Júnior, sees social losses and says he will send letters, this Thursday (23), with questions to Azul and the Administration of Fernando de Noronha, linked to the Government of Pernambuco.
“Many residents and workers have family in Natal, as well as companies that supply inputs to the island that are from there. People will now have to go to Recife to take risks and compete for places on flights to get to Noronha. And tourism is also affected “, says Ailton.
Regarding the Recife- route, Azul reports low occupancy on flights and, therefore, decided to operate the line using Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft, with capacity for 9 passengers.
According to Azul, impacted customers have been notified in advance and will receive the necessary assistance, as per resolution by Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency).
