The (Fundação Oswaldo Cruz) sent a letter to the Minister (Health) asking for support against the violence recorded on the entity’s campuses in Rio de Janeiro, a situation that, it states, “has put at risk the physical and mental health of workers, students and users.”
the operation left at least one person dead and an employee of the foundation injured at the headquarters in Manguinhos, north of the capital of Rio de Janeiro. At the time, Fiocruz said that civil police officers entered the campus unidentified and without authorization.
The letter was sent to Nísia on January 10th. The document is signed by the acting president, Marco Aurelio Krieger.
“We have faced the invasion of the Fiocruz Mata Atlântica Campus by militiamen and armed conflicts resulting from constant police operations in the territories adjacent to the Manguinhos, Maré and Jacarepaguá campuses”, he writes. “We highlight what happened on January 8th, when the Manguinhos Campus was invaded by the Civil Police.”
“This situation has put the physical and mental health of workers, students and users at risk, generating significant losses in the provision of the Foundation’s services, in addition to damage to our facilities.”
Nísia forwarded the request on January 13th to the director general of the Federal Police. The Panel contacted the PF asking if the request would be granted, but there was no response.
