As much as the topic is tiring, it dominated absolutely all discussions, but as if it were a magnet, the topic seduced me and I was unable to divert my attention from the arguments on both sides.

He hasn’t even just taken over and I can’t stand hearing his name anymore. But there’s no way to escape. Next thing I know, I’m there hunting for someone commenting on the most powerful man on the Planet. And powerful indeed. In the first administration, the Republican didn’t have all that ball. There were people who challenged him even within the party itself. Now, in addition to having a majority in the Senate, the Chamber and the Supreme Court, and being more experienced, he did not have to subject himself to them.

He learned to evaluate who he could and could not trust, only attracting those who “in good or bad, in health or in sickness” were loyal and did not back down. Even in the moments when it seemed like there was no way out of the situation, this group that now enjoys the benefits of canine solidarity.

Sleeping with both eyes closed

Therefore, each name chosen by Trump has a history of… it will depend on the ideological position of whoever analyzes it. If you are from the conservative wing, perhaps you would say “loyalty”. If, however, I advocate the progressive line, I would not hesitate to identify it as “complicity”. One way or another, there are now people who let the “man” sleep with both eyes closed.

Among Trump’s decisions that generated the most comments in the first days of government, the US withdrawal from the , interpreted by its base as a response to the organization’s political bias, and the , seen as a victory for conservatives in defense of the organization, stand out. economic sovereignty. But no measure provoked reactions as polarized as the repeal of policies favorable to minorities: celebrated by conservatives and harshly criticized by progressives.

Overwhelming but irresistible subject

As tired as the topic may be, it dominated absolutely all discussions. But as if it were a magnet, the subject seduced me and I was unable to divert my attention from the arguments on both sides.

On the first day, he revoked 78 executive orders and measures imposed by Biden. No stone was left unturned. And no surprise, as everything he did had already been foreseen in his campaign promises. In other words, good or bad, these decisions met the aspirations of their voters, the majority of Americans.

They looked like organized crowds

Political analysts and commentators, mostly on the left, had more difficulty analyzing. They went from here to there, tried to find consistent arguments, but most remained in superficial criticism, often resorting to the old clichés used. ad nauseam here in Brazilian lands. When criticizing Trump, they gave the impression of wanting to attack Bolsonarist ideas.

On the other side, those who are more aligned to the right, appeared exultant, as the decisions turned into the realization of their great consumer dream. In the end, it became a kind of Fla/Flu.

Different arguments on the same topic

I didn’t limit myself to following just one political spectrum. I was careful to divide the attention to try to capture, as impartially as possible, the opinions of each group. Especially, comparing arguments regarding the same topic.

Progressives, normally entrenched in the newsrooms of newspapers and radio and television stations, criticize, for example, the pardon granted to more than 1,500 people involved in the invasion of the Capitol. They claim that among those acquitted are dangerous criminals, who will now be loose on the streets committing crimes.

The similarities between Brazil and the USA

Conservatives, on the other hand, spread across social media, freer in their personal opinions, without having to submit to the command of the journalistic organization that hired them, invariably compared these prisoners with those who are still deprived of their freedom because of 8 of January. In fact, each measure adopted overseas by Trump was in line with the situation in Brazil.

And so, point by point, each side evaluated these first Trump decisions according to their political perspective. The conclusion reached, after all the debates, is that the left feels defeated, not knowing exactly which direction to take, and the right considers itself victorious, celebrating this moment as if it were a personal achievement.

Honesty of opinion

Whether this feeling of frustration or celebration is justified, only the future can tell. The months that follow will bring the concrete results of Trump’s actions, who, like other determined leaders, seeks to transform campaign promises into quick and impactful changes. An example closer to us is in Argentina, where Milei also began his government with blunt decisions that divided opinions and provoked similar reactions: euphoria among his supporters and perplexity among his critics.

I hope that after the results, the defenders or opponents of the American president will have the honesty to recognize that they were or were not wrong, without sophistry, without lying or distorting the facts. After all, recognizing mistakes and successes is the path to a more mature society – and learning like this is priceless. Follow on Instagram:
