In a criticism of the reaction of opposition governors, the president () said this Wednesday (22) that the agreement reached by the government to renegotiate the states’ debts “maybe only Jesus Christ would do, if he ran for President”.
“This Minas Gerais debt agreement, the government should come here and bring a trophy. [Por ser o] First president of the Republic that he is aware of has never vetoed absolutely anything from any governor, from any mayor because he was against or because he was in opposition,” said Lula, during an event at Palácio do Planalto. “What we did for the states that didn’t pay the debt perhaps only Jesus Christ would do, if he ran for President of the Republic of that country”, he added.
Last week, Lula sanctioned the project that alleviated debts, maintaining the device that allows state companies to be federalized to reduce part of the debt balance.
Lula’s statement was made during the event to sign the concession contract for the BR-381 highway, after years of unsuccessful attempts to reach an agreement with the private sector for the so-called “Rodovia of Death”.
At the event, the president distributed other criticisms to governors, including (Minas Gerais), who did not participate in the event, (São Paulo) and Eduardo Leite (Rio Grande do Sul).
