A Primark will reinforce its presence in Portugal with the opening of three new stores this year, bringing the total number of brand stores in the country to 14.
As part of a broader expansion strategy in the Iberian Peninsula — where openings are also planned in Spain, specifically in Lugo, Zaragoza and Jáen, totaling 64 stores in that market — the Irish chain will reach three new Portuguese cities this year: Guimarães, Viseu e Covilhã.
Primark has been investing in the expansion and renewal of its operations in the Iberian region. In 2024, it opened five stores, renovated nine and expanded three in the Iberian Peninsula, increasing the total number of employees to 11 thousand, with 700 new jobs created last yearaccording to . The Iberian market already represents 17% of the company’s global revenue and generates around 1.9 billion euros, a growth of 6% compared to the previous year.
Portugal has been a strategic market for Primark. In October 2024, the brand opened a store in Montijo and expanded the space in Colombo in June of the same year. With the aim of doubling its market share in the national territory, the company started to implement a new concept of smaller stores, in order to serve regions with lower sales volume, keeping prices affordable and attracting new customers.
The company also recently announced the opening of its first store 100% dedicated to household items, Primark Homewhich will open in Donegall Place, in the center of Belfast, Northern Ireland.
