Inspired by , arrives to win over fans of cooperative games with an irresistible proposal full of humor. Developed by Giant Warrior Studio and published by GoGo Games Interactive, this Brazilian game manages to develop its own flavor, transporting players to a little world in which preparing dinner can be as dangerous as being the main dish.
Imagine a food truck in which the chefs are little monsters who need to hunt for exotic ingredients, whether in single player or cooperative mode, such as slicing lizards, frying scorpions and roasting vultures after taking them down with your weapon, or rather, your pan. Meanwhile, charismatic, colorful and hungry monsters pile up in search of a good meal, demanding your attention to serve them before your patience runs out, leaving only the desire to devour the cooks.
Open your appetite for challenges
Monster Meals may even have been born from references from other titles where the focus is on time and activity management. However, it manages to be simple and offer a lot of fun through chaos and increasing challenge, adding new features to its mechanics and creating a very unique style for its gameplay. During the 20 levels spread across four different worlds, we have a journey in which evolution is visible and constant, requiring skill and planning, as the player needs to balance multiple responsibilities.
The task of cooking, mixing ingredients and interacting with tools, gets an extra and exclusive addition to Monster Meals when you need to hunt for food before slicing, cooking and assembling your dish. Using your kitchen utensil, which can be customized by transforming a frying pan into a sword, you will attack lizards, snakes, scorpions and birds to catch and take to your food truck. As if that weren’t enough, there’s no point being smart when creating a “stock” on the floor, as they are perishable ingredients and they will disappear.
Not to mention that customers have a timer to be served and then served. If you delay your delivery, in addition to losing points, the player runs the risk of being devoured. This punishing mechanic also has an impact on time management, which can result in you not being able to outrun other monsters or losing food in preparation or raw food, making Monster Meals unique in its combination of challenge and fun.
The progression through the four levels is well constructed, introducing new elements gradually and keeping the interest always sharp. Giant Warrior Studio’s work is not just another cooking game, but an experience that comes with laughter as we try to survive the monstrous chaos of this crazy food truck. Simple and fun, the gameplay takes place through simple and very responsive controls, but with some points for improvement.
Without compromising the experience, it will not always be easy to collect ingredients from the ground due to the proximity of more than one animal. Many times I ended up getting the wrong one because I killed three of them in the same place. Due to the side view, perhaps the use of the upper buttons could be used to facilitate the selection of what to pick up or change what we are interacting with, as in the case of the sauce machine, which requires one button to activate it and another to change it. between mustard and ketchup.
Delicious creativity
The visual quality of Monster Meals is undeniable, making the game a real feast for the eyes (the pun was stronger than me). Small, well-represented scenes, very colorful and charismatic characters move around full of personality, and the ingredients are cute, even ready to be cooked. Everything is very well crafted, inviting the player to have fun beyond the gameplay, enjoying each stage reached. I just believe that the iconography of the dishes could be clearer, demanding the player’s attention between what is cooked or raw.
Even with a soundtrack that seems to be generic and does not explore the potential of the game, as well as the gameplay and visuals can do, Monster Meals offers a lot of content for you to unlock and customize your character, the food truck serves as a base for future expansions, always with this constant feeling of evolution. As much as it may be a repetitive game, the learning curve and the challenge of achieving three stars, performing all the necessary tasks, increase the replay factor and fill the space due to the lack of more phases.
For those looking for a light, fun game with a unique Brazilian touch, Monster Meals is definitely a delicious choice (ok! I stopped with the puns). Simple, beautiful and challenging, this culinary adventure on four wheels allows you to explore new ways of playing what seems like something you already know, while surviving the hunger of monsters. After all, the customer is always right!
