Ratcliffe said during his Senate hearing last week that under his leadership the CIA would produce objective analysis.
The US Senate confirmed John Ratcliffe as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Thursday, with strong support from both major political parties, AFP reported. The nomination to the Senate was submitted by President Donald Trump, reminds TASR.
He vowed never to allow political or personal bias to cloud the CIA’s judgment. He also spoke in relation to China when he said that the CIA must continue to focus more intensively on the threats posed by this Asian country and its ruling Communist Party.
He called it important for the CIA to also focus on technology, noting that knowing the adversary’s capabilities in this area is more important than ever.
Ratcliffe previously served as a federal prosecutor. In the years 2015-2020, he was a member of the House of Representatives for the state of Texas – it was a period when he helped defend Trump during the first attempt to impeach him.
Trump then appointed Ratcliffe as director of the US National Intelligence Service (DNI). He held this post from May 2020 to January 2021. He is currently the co-chairman of the Center for American Security, a think tank in Washington that defends the positions of former US President Trump.
