Vice President James David Vance will be the first foreign representative of the new American government in Poland.
US Vice President James David Vance will attend the 80th anniversary celebrations of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Nazi concentration camp on January 27. The information was brought by Polish Television (TVP) with reference to sources in the government. The TASR reporter informs about it.
According to TVP, Vance’s visit to Poland will be the first foreign trip of a senior representative of the new American government. The main program of the celebrations will begin on Monday at 4 p.m. with the participation of Polish President Andrzej Duda, and delegations from more than forty countries, including Slovakia, have confirmed their participation. The camp museum estimates that around 3,000 people will attend the event, including 50 Holocaust survivors.
The extermination concentration camp Auschwitz-Birkenau was founded by the Nazis in 1940 and more than a million people were murdered there during the Second World War. The camp was liberated on January 27, 1945 by soldiers of the 60th Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front.
