The Union’s attorney general, Jorge Messias, stated that there are still unknown changes in the social media moderation policy. The minister did not directly mention the , but stated that recent changes are worrying.
“We are talking about a series of situations that are worrying us. The recent changes that are being implemented, some we know and others we don’t know, affect the lives of millions of Brazilians,” said the minister.
The statements were given at a public hearing called by the (Advocacy General of the Union) this Wednesday (22).
The hearing was called after a response from Meta, owner of e , regarding the issues and opened a consultation to send suggestions.
At the beginning of the month, the company’s CEO, , in a video published on his Instagram account, announced a set of , including the end of the fact-checking program created in 2016 to contain the spread of misinformation on its applications.
He also attacked “secret decisions” of Latin American courts. Without explicitly citing the STF, Zuckerberg says that the American government needs to help combat what is being done by the Judiciary in the region.

“The platforms were invited and preferred not to participate in this hearing. It is an option, we respect it. This does not prohibit dialogue, which is always open. I even received contact from some platforms expressing their interest in continuing to collaborate with the government”, said Messias .
