In an interview with CNN This Wednesday (22), the Minister of the Civil House, Rui Costa, stated that the government will not give up on its fiscal commitment.
“Everything necessary to do to comply with the fiscal framework and fiscal balance will be done,” said Rui Costa during CNN Arena. “We will not give up, under any circumstances, the government’s fiscal commitment”, added the minister.
“We have already proven, for two years, our absolute commitment to fiscal balance”, he pointed out.
“In 2023, we will honor not only the expenses that the Lula government made in 2023, but we will honor the liabilities we received from the previous government. In 2024, we made a commitment to zero deficit, with a band of a margin plus or minus, and we stayed within that margin that we had committed to”.

“What is not correct is that a person who earns two million a year, five million a year, does not pay any tax, and a person who earns R$10 thousand, R$6 thousand, already pays tax. Anyone who earns R$4,000 already pays tax. So it is not correct that anyone who earns 3, earns 4, pays tax, and whoever earns five million pays nothing”, he added.
The government signaled that the spending cut package includes a mechanism to tax the super-rich, in order to compensate for the waiver.
