Not only social networks themselves, but also communication channels currently rule the world. We have apps on our phones that allow us to stay in touch. But under what conditions?
One of the most popular communication applications is WhatsApp. But using it can bring an unpleasant problem to your phone – the phone’s memory will soon start to fill up at lightning speed. It collects photos, shared documents, voice messages and other materials that you share with others. How is it possible to prevent such phone congestion?

He really saves everything
First of all, it should be remembered that WhatsApp tends to store the delivered files in the so-called local storage, i.e. directly on the phone instead of in the clouds. This is already a significant problem that explains a lot. Therefore, it will not be useless to start by finding out how much memory such material already takes up on your phone. This will not be a big problem and such information will come in handy.
How to find out?
If you use an Android phone, look in Settings, then Storage, and there you will already see WhatsApp, including information on how much space this application takes up. On the iPhone, the procedure is similar: in Settings, click on General, then iPhone Storage, where you will again simply find the name of the application and its size.
Don’t save, don’t save, don’t save
As we explained, delivered and sent files and media take up most of the memory space. Therefore, it will be a good idea to turn off their automatic saving function. Again, we will go in two ways depending on what system the phone is running on.
Android offers a Storage and Data column in Settings. This will be followed by Automatic Media Download, which you set to “Only when connected to Wi-Fi” or “Never”, where you select different types of media individually. Then everything will be easier and the phone will be significantly lighter.
Delete unnecessary chats
iPhone users must first go to Settings and then Chats. Now it will be enough to turn off the “Save to Photos” option. No more is needed – that is, for the future. However, the media that was downloaded before this operation still remains stored in the phone.
Therefore, spend a little more time managing the repository. The first step will be to open Settings again, followed by Storage and data and Storage management. Find conversations by size in the chat list and delete the ones you don’t need to save.
Continuous control is necessary
This cleansing intervention will help at the moment, but it may happen that the storage will gradually fill up again over time. Therefore, it will be advisable to check and clean the phone from time to time. Although it will take a few minutes (perhaps even tens – depending on how full the memory is), the phone will work a little faster and you will be able to store really important information in the memory.
