The Analgarve Regional Team, made up of 20 athletes from the children’s and youth categories, achieved, on January 18th, collective third place in the XXXII Taça Vale do Tejo, held in Abrantes. This competition included the participation of 13 territorial associations at national level, each represented by its best swimmers.
“This result is a reflection of the effort that Rio Grande do Sul sports agents have made in recent years, increasing the level of practitioners and their quality. The main people responsible for this result were, naturally, the Algarve athletes, their coaches and their clubs”, states the Algarve Swimming Association.
This performance once again highlighted the Algarve’s potential to become one of the national swimming powers, provided that the appropriate conditions for this purpose are met.
The selection was made up of the following athletes: João Pedro António, Diogo Kwan Duarte, Daniel, Fisticanu, Isaac Salavessa Horta, Pedro Afonso Lopes, Alexandre Ribeiro Mendonça, João Agueda Mestre, João Tomas Nunes, Mateus Inácio Silva, Rafael Alexandre Silva, Henrique Afonso Vieira, Constança Lourenço Azevedo, Juliana Bushe Barroso, Bruna Filipa Borralho, Mariana Canarias Jesus, Carolina Melo Lopes, Leonor Melo Lopes, Rita Maria Loura, Carolina Brito Santos and Beatriz Lopes Silva.
The team was accompanied by coaches Guilherme Sá and Rui Mendonça.
“The athletes were exemplary in the way they presented themselves in their sporting conduct, in the way they behaved in and out of the water, and in the way they seized every opportunity given to them, to try to do better and overcome themselves, showing that what the competition requires self-effort and overcoming, it also requires companionship”, highlights Analgarve – Algarve Swimming Association.
The Regional Team also took the opportunity to thank “the Portimão City Council for providing transport and its driver, José Andrez”.
