The president of Banco Santander, Ana Botín, and the president of the United States, Donald Trump, congratulated each other in Davos during an event at the World Economic Forum, while celebrating deregulation in the North American country.
Trump spoke in Davos on a panel in which he received questions from the president and CEO of Blackstone, Stephen Schwarzman; Bank of America Chairman and CEO Brian Moynihan; the president and CEO of TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanné; and Ana Botín herself.
“Congratulations on a historic victory,” said Ana Botín during her question to the American president. The board has highlighted that Santander is a “major investor” in the country, where it has millions of clients, 12,000 workers and where it has recently launched Openbank.
“We are delighted with your focus on deregulation and reducing bureaucracy,” the president of Santander told Trump, while asking him what his priorities are in this area and how quickly they are going to happen.
At the beginning of his speech, Trump also praised Botín. “I know your bank very well and you have done a fantastic job. Congratulations,” he said.
When asked about deregulation, the US president said: “We are going to move very quickly. We have already moved very quickly. We have done things in the last three days that no one thought possible in years,” he stressed.
