President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will meet with ministers this Friday morning (23), to evaluate solutions to the rise in food prices. The meeting will take place this Friday (24), at 9:30 am, at Palácio do Planalto.
In addition to the president, ministers Fernando Haddad (Finance), Carlos Fávaro (Agriculture), Paulo Teixeira (Agrarian Development), Sidônio Palmeira (Secom), Rui Costa (Casa Civil) and Esther Dweck (Management) will participate.
The meeting takes place after the Brazilian Supermarket Association (ABRAS) forwarded to Planalto in 2024 a list of measures that could reduce the values on the shelves.
“The demand was presented by supermarkets, claiming it would reduce prices, but the risk is that the government will fall into a trap of businessmen, believing that giving benefits to them will help the population”, says Téo Takar, editor-in-chief of Bom Dia Mercado to the CNN Money.
Negative repercussions led Planalto to discard one of the main ideas in this regard, which is the change in the food expiration model.
