“The press that checks facts, that separates fact from opinion and that, above all, has this very important role, which is to create a set of common facts on which people form their opinion”, said Barroso, when participating in the, in Switzerland.
This becomes more important, he continued, “in this world where polarized tribes have formed and each one thinks they can create their own narrative.”
For Barroso, it is necessary that “lying becomes wrong again”. “There is no point in running away from reality. But, with all the changes, we need to preserve our values, which are good, justice, civility and the dignity of all people”, he stated.
The minister’s assessment comes after the alignment of the main technology companies with the government, recently sworn in for its second term, and the end of content moderation on platforms.
