The agency’s operation for another 90 days in Foz do Iguaçu aims to combat transnational crimes
The federal government, through the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, extended the use of the National Public Security Force in support of the Integrated Border Operations Center, located in Foz do Iguaçu (PR). The measure was published in the Official Gazette of the Union this Friday (24 January 2025). Here is it (PDF – 246kB).
The action, which will continue for another 90 days, will be carried out between February 14 and May 14, 2025, focusing on Judicial Police and Technical-Scientific Police actions. The objective is to intensify the fight against transnational crimes and ensure the preservation of public order in the border region.
The decision released by the federal government is based on the Federal Constitution, Law No. 11,473/2007, and cooperation agreements between the Union and the States, considering the planned and episodic nature of operations. The ordinance regulating the extension comes into force from this Friday (24th January).
The operation of the National Public Security Force, whose operations in Foz do Iguaçu were extended by the ordinance, must also rely on logistical support and infrastructure provided by the requesting body. The contingent employed will be defined in accordance with the planning prepared by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security. The ordinance is signed by the minister of the portfolio, Ricardo Lewandowski.
The Integrated Border Operations Center was created to combat national and transnational crime, as well as protect Brazil’s borders. The body relies on the actions of the Command and Control Center, working on public security in all states and the Federal District.
The integrated operations carried out by the Command and Control Center also rely on a centralized platform for the exchange of information, strategic planning and coordination between various public security, inspection and defense bodies, according to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security.
