How ProUni works; understand the rules of the scholarship program

The registrations of the ProUni (University for All Program), which provides full and partial scholarships in undergraduate courses in Brazil, started this Friday (24).

This is a MEC (Ministry of Education) program, created by the federal government in 2004, which provides the opportunity to study in private higher education institutions. Scholarships can be full (100%) and partial (50%).

How does ProUni work?

To apply for one of the scholarships at private institutions, you must have taken at least one of the last two editions of the (National Secondary Education Examination). This would be the pre-selection.

The candidate must have scored at least 450 points on the average of the five exam scores and not have zero marks.

What are the criteria for each type of scholarship:

  • Comprehensive bag: for students who prove monthly gross family income, per person, of up to one and a half minimum wages.
  • 50% partial bag: for students who prove monthly gross family income, per person, of up to three minimum wages.

According to the MEC, the candidate for both scholarships must meet at least one of the conditions below:

  • Have completed high school in a public school;
  • Have completed high school in a private school, as a full scholarship holder from the school itself;
  • Have attended high school partially at a public school and partially at a private school, as a full scholarship holder at the private school itself;
  • Have attended high school partially at a public school and partially at a private school, as a partial scholarship holder from the school itself or without the scholarship status;
  • Have completed high school entirely at a private institution, as a partial scholarship holder of the respective institution or without the status of a scholarship holder;
  • Being a person with a disability;
  • Being a teacher in the public education network, effectively teaching basic education, a member of the permanent staff of a public institution and competing for scholarships exclusively in teaching and teaching courses — in these cases, there are no income requirements.

The program also reserves a number of scholarships for people with disabilities and self-declared indigenous, brown or black.

ProUni registrations and course choice

The ProUni selection process has a single registration stage, which must be .

When registering, the candidate chooses, in order of preference, up to two institution, course and shift options from among the available scholarships, according to their profile.

During the registration period — — the candidate can change the options. The last confirmed registration will be considered valid.

According to the program’s notice, which was published on January 16th, the first call from Sai on February 4th.

Two calls will be made. At each call, pre-selected candidates have a deadline to appear at the educational institution and present documents that prove the information provided on the registration form.

After the two calls, the candidate who has not yet been pre-selected or has failed due to not forming a class can express interest in participating in the ProUni waiting list.

Can institutions apply their own selection process?

According to the MEC, some institutions submit pre-selected for a specific selection processwhich may be different from . The candidate must check, when selecting the course option when registering, whether the institution will apply its own selection process.

Institutions that opt ​​for this must formally explain to students, in the maximum period of 24 hours for the announcement of call resultsthe nature and approval criteria, which cannot be more rigorous than those applied to those pre-selected in regular selection processes.

Furthermore, no fee may be charged for the selection process itself.
