Died on the night of last Tuesday (21) Maria Gabriela da Silva, 4, who was admitted to the Emergency Hospital of Teresina (HUT), in the capital of Piauí, since January 3. She was transferred to the health unit after all members of her family consume the poisoned baião.
Maria Gabriela was the fifth victim to die from complications of collective poisoning. According to the health unit, the girl spent more than 20 days hospitalized in the HUT pediatric ICU.
In addition to Maria Gabriela (4 years old, daughter of Francisca), the poisoning also killed Manoel da Silva (18, stepson of Francisco and brother of Francisca), Imale Davi da Silva (1 year and 8 months, son of Francisca), Maria Lauane (3 years old, daughter of Francisca) and Francisca Maria (32 years old, Stepming of Francisco and Sister of Manoel).
Stepfather is suspicious
Francisco de Assis Pereira da Costa, 53, under the suspicion of being responsible for the poisoning that killed five people from their own family. The pre -trial detention was decreed after the police pointed to contradictions in the versions of the suspect’s testimonials and see evidence of contempt by him in relation to the victims.
Francisco lived with his partner, Maria dos Aflitos, and her children, six of the eight sons of Mary resided in the house where the crime occurred. According to the delegate Abimael Silva, responsible for investigating the case, the house where the crime occurred is small and housed 11 people, which made it difficult to live with. The poisoning occurred during the lunch of January 1, when everyone consumed Baião of two contaminated with Terbufós.
After ingestion of the dish, Francisco and eight family people were taken to a health unit in the region. Initially, it was suspected that the poisoning had been caused by fish donated to the family, but exams discarded the possibility. The expert report confirmed that the poison was exclusively at Baião-deis.
Police concluded that Francisco would possibly be responsible for the crime, based on contradictions in his statements and a history of hostility, especially in relation to FRANCISCA MARIA SCREW. In his testimonials, he showed contempt for the victims, even calling Francisca’s children “primates” and making derogatory comments about the stepdaughter.
According to the Civil Police, Francisco de Assis Pereira da Costa is, so far, the main suspect of the crime. However, the delegate Abimael Silva stressed that the investigation is still in progress, with a period of 30 days for the completion of the police inquiry, and may be extended – the same period as the temporary arrest of Francisco.
