Portuguese technology will make trips to the supermarket easier (and without queues)

Have you ever imagined going to the supermarket and doing your shopping without having to scan barcodes to pay? The technology is from a Portuguese company and automatically detects the products that the customer places in the cart. Futuro Hoje went to Leiria and explains how it works.

There is a Portuguese company that has been working for years to end queues at supermarket checkouts. The objective is, through technology, to automatically detect the products that customers place in the cart.

More. When arriving at the box you don’t even need to take the products out of the cart or basket. Just pay.

But how?

This technology works through a type of cameras, installed above the shelves, which detect all movements of customers and products. Furthermore, there are scales on the shelves that register changes in weight.

But what if you only pick one product to look at?

Nothing to fear. You will not be charged for this productas long as you put it back in place.

In addition to making customers’ lives easier, this new technology also allows stores to control inventory in real time.

“We know exactly what we have on the shelves, we know where they are and therefore, as you can imagine, this brings great efficiency gains”, explains Marlos Silva, head of Innovation at Sonae MC.

At the limit, you can even carry the products in your coat pocket. The system knows anyway.
