The Prime Minister of North Macedonia expressed his surprise about what he mentioned.
In an interview on Thursday night on the state television (MTV) and asked about what he mentioned during his meeting, in New Jersey, with his expatriates living in the USA, Christian Mickoski said that he was “surprised by such a reaction”, even wondering: “How did they feel that I am talking about them, since I do not mention anyone by name in my statement?”
He stressed that “I will not allow us to be provoked and this all to turn into an endless process”.
“My goal and my message is clear. As prime minister, it would be irresponsible and treasonous to the Macedonian people, to the Macedonian citizens, to say that he has closed it, in fact in circumstances where we are not a member of the European family and in fact while we started the path (of joining the EU) earlier than other countries that today he is there” he added.
“And this is an issue that remains open,” noted the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
According to Christian Mickoski, the reason why his country has not yet joined the E.U. it is due to the bilateral issues, which as he said should not be a criterion and condition for integration.
“A more fundamental issue” he added “is that we cannot say that the Macedonian issue is closed when the European Court of Human Rights has issued decisions in favor of the Macedonians living on the other side of our border, in Bulgaria, which decisions say that the Bulgarian society does not respect the basic human rights of the Macedonian community there,” said Christian Mickoski.
“It would be irresponsible and treacherous on my part, as the president of the Macedonian government, to ignore all of this and to retreat in submission, thinking that this is how I will solve the problems. No, as long as I am alive and engaged in this work, I will fight to correct these injustices in the 21st century” concluded the Prime Minister of North Macedonia.
