Rubens Paiva’s death certificate is corrected by a notary’s office – 01/24/2025 – Power

The death certificate of , whose story is told in the film “”, was amended this Thursday (23) to state that the former deputy died violently and was caused by the Brazilian State during the military dictatorship.

The change complies with a determination by the (National Council of Justice) from December last year for civil registry offices to prepare or correct the documents of political dead and missing people.

The new version of the document indicates that the cause of death was “unnatural; violent; caused by the Brazilian State in the context of the systematic persecution of the population identified as political dissidents of the dictatorial regime established in 1964”.

In the previous version, issued by the Sé registry office in São Paulo, it only stated that Rubens Paiva had been missing since 1971.

The story of Rubens Paiva is told in the Brazilian film directed by , and Fernanda Montenegro.

The work is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Marcelo Rubens Paiva, son of the former deputy who disappeared during Brazil, and tells the story of his mother, Eunice Paiva.

Also last Thursday, Fernanda Torres was nominated for best actress for her performance in the film. The work competes in the categories of best film and best international film.
