The US Senate confirmed John Ratcliffe as director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) on Thursday with strong support from both major political parties. AFP reported. The nomination to the Senate was submitted by President Donald Trump, reminds TASR.
Ratcliffe said during his Senate hearing last week that under his leadership the CIA would produce objective analysis. He vowed never to allow political or personal bias to cloud the CIA’s judgment.
He also expressed himself in relation to China, when he said that the CIA must continue and intensify its focus on threats, represented by this Asian country and its ruling communist party.
He called it important for the CIA to focus on technology, noting that knowing your opponent’s capabilities in this area is more important than ever.
Ratcliffe previously served as a federal prosecutor. In the years 2015 – 2020 he was a member of the House of Representatives for the state of Texas – it was a period when he helped defend Trump during the first attempt to impeach him.
Trump then appointed Ratcliffe as director of the US National Intelligence Service (DNI). He held this post from May 2020 to January 2021. He is currently the co-chairman of the Center for American Security, a think tank in Washington that defends the positions of former US President Trump.
