The Republican National Guard (GNR) announced this Saturday the seizure of more than 93 kilos of hashish in Costa Vicentina and the western Algarve, the result of operations carried out on Thursday and Friday.
According to the GNR statement, the intensification of coastal patrolling by the Coastal and Border Control Unit (UCCF), motivated by the worsening of weather conditions and the state of the sea, led to the detection of several quantities of drugs near the coastline.
On Thursday, the military found a bundle of burlap containing hashish on Manuel Lourenço Beach (Guia), with a total weight of 43.5 kilos. On the same day, at Praia da Cordoama (Vila do Bispo), several packages of drugs were seized, weighing a total of 4.5 kilos.
On Friday, during an action at Praia da Mareta (Sagres), another bundle of litter was detected and seized, containing 45.05 kilograms of hashish.
The operation, coordinated by UCCF and the Faro Territorial Command, mobilized land and maritime patrol teams. These efforts are part of the authorities’ strategy to combat drug trafficking, especially during periods of adverse maritime conditions, which facilitate the stranding of drug packages on the Portuguese coast.
In the same vein, the Maritime Police revealed, on Friday, the seizure of 369 kilos of hashish in the last three days, on beaches located in the municipalities of Faro, Portimão and Lagos.
These operations reflect the reinforcement of coastal control and cooperation between different security forces in the fight against drug trafficking in the Algarve.
