The federal government plans to inaugurate, in February, a Cruzeiro do Sul Intelligence Center, Acre, in an area near the border with Peru. The goal is to intensify the fight against drug trafficking and other illicit activities, as the region is strategic due to the inauguration of the port of Chancay, Peru, operated by Chinese company Cosco.
The terminal, which is about 70 kilometers from Lima, is considered a favorable point for increasing trade between China and South America, but also arouses safety -related concerns.
The new center will be the first of a model of intelligence posts that the government intends to implement in the other borders of the country. The initiative aims not only to monitor these areas, but also to strengthen the fight against criminal organizations that operate in the Amazon region.
According to the National Secretary of Public Security, Mario Sarrubbo, responsible for the project, the integration of borders is fundamental to mitigate risks and dismantle trafficking and smuggling networks.
In addition to the Intelligence Center in Acre, the Government is preparing other measures to face organized crime, including the Proposed Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) of Public Security and a “antimal” bill.
