Ten tents with water, juices and fruits are distributed in the city of São Paulo, announced the city hall
With temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celcius (ºC), São Paulo City Hall resumed Operation High Temperatures on Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2025), with actions to distribute water, juices and fruits to the vulnerable population, in tents set up in high traffic areas.
According to the municipality, socio-educational counselors from Seas (Specialized Social Approach Service) will provide assistance in the tents and will actively search the city’s streets, to offer reception in social assistance network equipment to anyone who needs it.
The program also provides assistance with guidance for pet owners on how to pay attention to the situation of their animals.
The 10 tents are distributed in points of high circulation of homeless people, at the addresses below:
- Central Region – Praça da República and Praça Marechal Deodoro;
- South Region – Santo Amaro (Praça Floriano Peixoto x Rua Paulo Eiró) and Capela do Socorro (Praça José Boemer Roschel);
- North Region – Santana (Heróis da FEB Square) and Vila Maria (Novo Mundo Square);
- East Region – Itaquera (Av. Musgo de Flor x Avenida Imperador) and Mooca (Praça Cid José da Silva Campanella);
- West Region – Lapa (Rua do Curtume, s/nº – corner with Guaicurus).
Heat
The city of São Paulo has recorded temperatures above 30 degrees since last weekend. In the early evening of Tuesday (January 21), the CGE-SP (Climate Emergency Management Center of the City of São Paulo) recorded an average temperature above 28 degrees. According to the agency, since Monday (20 January) the city has maintained a state of alert for high temperatures. From days 18 to 20, the temperature reached 33.1ºC, and the average recorded was 32.1ºC.
The National Institute of Meteorology estimates an increase in temperature in the capital of São Paulo, with peaks at 34ºC.
State
The state Civil Defense recorded a temperature of around 38ºC in Santos, on the south coast. The agency recommends paying attention to your health, with care such as constant hydration throughout the day and avoiding direct exposure to the sun from 10am to 4pm. “Try to stay in shady and ventilated places, avoid intense physical activity during the hottest times of the day. Try to have a light diet, choosing fresh foods, such as fruits, salads and foods with a high water content. Pay extra attention to children and the elderly, as they are more vulnerable to heat”says the note.
