History of the São Paulo Junior Football Cup
Disputed since 1969, the competition emerged as Sao Paulo Cup of Juveniles. Name and age limit for 20 years were changed in 1981.
The tournament takes place traditionally at the beginning of the year and the final is always played on January 25, the anniversary day of the city of São Paulo. This is because, originally, Copinha was organized by the City of São Paulo. This changed only in 1987, when Mayor Jânio Quadros gave up the competition and she moved to the FPF.
