A survey on the profile of Brazilian athletes shows that the Northeast is the region where street running is growing the most in Brazil. According to the data, the modality went from 9% in 2023 to 22.3% in 2024. >
The research was carried out by Ticket Sports, a platform for selling registrations for sporting events, and takes into account the participation of amateur athletes in sporting competitions. >
The Southeast region continues to lead, with 51% of registrations, but registered a significant drop compared to the previous year, when it represented 60.2% of the total. >
According to Ticket Sports, the growth of the Northeast reflects the expansion of interest and access to sports among residents of the region, in addition to being possibly related to tourism, as 48% of all registered athletes (from all regions) competed at events outside their cities or states. The other regions maintained similar numbers to those recorded in previous years in the study.>
The platform also points out that large running events, such as the Salvador Marathon, which is held annually, help to increase numbers and attract more fans to street running. >
“The data from the Northeast highlights the growing interest of athletes from the region, not only in participating in local events, but also in competing outside of it. This phenomenon reinforces the importance of the region, recognizing its potential and evolution, and highlights the need to intensify investments and expand support to the Northeast”, says Daniel Krutman, CEO of Ticket Sports.>
