Sudan: 70 Mortal Victims After Drone Attack on Hospital in Darfur

Darfur Governor Minni Arko Minawi, in a statement in his X account, reported by the Efe news agency, pointed out that the attack was from the Paramilitar Group Fast Support forces

At least 70 people died and dozens were injured in an attack with drones to a Saudi hospital in the city of Al-Fasca, the capital of the state of Darfur do Norte, western Sudan, official sources announced today.

Darfur governor Minni Arko Minawi, in a statement in his X account, reported by EFE news agency, pointed out that the attack was from the Paramilitar Group Fast Support Forces (RSF, in the English acronym).

The governor reported the death of 70 patients, including women and children.

Before, a medical source, who asked for anonymity for fear reprisals, had told AFP that the attack had caused at least 30 dead.

And the al-Fasca resistance committees, which have been in charge of counting the victims since the beginning of the conflict, had previously established in statement the number of dead in the attack in 30, also attributing it to a FAR drone.

“Dozens were injured,” he said in the statement without specifying the number.

The organization added that bombing caused the full destruction of the hospital’s accident area, leaving it out of service.

Both Minawi and Committees observed that the Saudi Hospital was the only one who still provided services to patients in the region after the destruction of other hospitals in the conflict that began in mid -April 2023.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been the scene of a war between the paramilitary forces, led by General Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, and the army led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the country’s factual leader, one of the world’s poorest.

The war has already caused tens of thousands of dead, with estimates between 20,000 and 150,000.

The RSF control almost the entire western region of Darfur and has blocked El-Fasca, a region of two million inhabitants and capital of the state of Darfur do Norte, since May.

But the Army combined militias have so far been able to respond to the attacks.

Attacks to health infrastructures are common in el-fashion.

Doctors Without Borders said, in early January, that the Saudi Hospital was “the only public hospital with surgical facilities still in operation.”

Throughout the country, up to 80% of health facilities were placed out of service, according to official data.
