In central Slovakia, ice can occur from Saturday to Sunday (26 1.). Strong winds in the mountains can occur in the north of the SR at night. The Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute (SHMI) therefore issued a first -level warning.
The alert against the ice is valid from 20:00. until Sunday 09:00 Meteorologists released it for the whole Banská Bystrica region and district Rožňava. “Ice formation poses a potential danger to human activities such as transport, people’s movement, infrastructure,” they pointed out.
Strong winds are to be in the mountains in the districts of Banská Bystrica, Brezno, Poprad, Dolný Kubín, Liptovský Mikuláš, Martin, Námestovo, Ružomberok, Tvrdošín and Žilina. “In the mountains, the wind is expected to occur in the positions above the forest zone, which reaches a short term (in gusts) 110 to 135 kilometers per hour or an average speed of 70 to 85 kilometers per hour, which is a storm,” said SHMI.
