Who does not remember the popular host of TV shows for gardeners and do-it-yourselfers Premka Podlah († 76)? A Czech newspaper recently returned to his difficult life story.
A native of Prague, a graduate of journalism studies at the Faculty of Philosophy, established himself on the screens of the former Czechoslovak Television as the presenter of the show Receptář in order to subsequently continue cooperation with the public Czech Television (Receptář not only on Sunday) and commercial TV Prima (Receptář prima iideů), reports TASR.
For his long and rich career he managed to earn a huge fortunewhich according to the newspaper amounted to 40 million crowns. However, he could easily lose it because of his son Pavlo. He borrowed millions from his father and drowned them in gambling or unsuccessful business. His parents therefore decided that they will no longer financially support their son.
He even inherited the floor and gave Paul a draft contract, according to which he would not exercise his right to the money from the estate. After the signing, they were not to see each other again. At the end of the 1990s, the well-known presenter gave him a 6 million dollar apartment in the capital, but later sold it below the price.
Despite health problems, Podlaha continued to moderate until June 2014. That same year, the day before Christmas, he died of pancreatic cancer in a hospice under a different name. His wife Katarína kept great secrets about his stay in the medical facility. A fake name – Jan Novák – had to be written on the door of the room – and no one but her and her daughter went to see him. His friends could not even say goodbye to him.
