The 105 residents of Cueva de Mora, a district of the Huelva municipality of Almonaster La Real, will be able to return to their homes, 48 hours after the presence of a crack through which the water of the neighboring swamp Monte Félix-Toril , would have determined the Junta de Andalucía to take in these two days, the technicians of the Andalusian Emergency Agency (EMA) H by the rains of the and thus avoid the risk of overflow and breakage of the reservoir.

The Andalusian government made the decision to evacuate the residents of the district last Wednesday at noon. The crack has been on the reservoir wall for years, explained the mayor of Almonaster, Jacinto Vázquez, to this newspaper that same night. All the evicted were relocated to family homes and in hotel establishments and rural houses of the Huelva municipality. “The restaurants have turned to them serving dinners and meals,” explained the councilor.

In these two days, EMA technicians have been working to lower the level of the swamp, a task that the rain has made it difficult. On Thursday the situation was stabilized, but although the neighbors had asked to return to their homes or approach them to verify that the cattle were well, the authorities chose not to authorize their return, given the possibility that the intense rainfall worsened the situation.

On the ground, they have been operating up to 11 pumps and heavy bombs of extraction that have evacuated more than two million liters of water at the time. This measure, together with those developed during Thursday early in the early hours .

Between noon and the afternoon, the water was already below the spillways and has continued to descend, reversing the pressure on the swamp wall, which has determined the authorities to allow the return of the evacuated neighbors.
