The US State Department has suspended passport request processing seeking gender marker “X” and will only process and issue passports to people who identify themselves as men or women, according to a spokesman.

The measure is aligned with an executive order signed by President Donald Trump on Monday (20) who says it is the US government policy and that “these sexes are not alterable.”

“According to this order, the US passport emission by the department will reflect the biological sex of the individual as defined in the executive order,” said the spokesman on Friday (24).

In addition to suspension of requesting requests with marker X, the State Department is no longer issuing US passports with this marker, the spokesman added.

They said that “guidelines on passports with sex marker previously issued are coming.”

Trump’s executive order reverses changes made under the Biden administration designed to accommodate non -binary, intersex and not conform to gender.

From April 2022, Americans were able to select X as their gender marker.

Trump government policy

During the speech on Monday, Donald Trump addressed the gender issue.

“This week, I will end the government policy of trying to make social and gender social engineering in all aspects of public and private life. We will forge a society that is colorblind and based on merit ”

Donald Trump

“From today, it will be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders, male and female,” he added.

The Republican also pointed out at another time that there was illegal and unconstitutional efforts to restrict freedom of expression, noting that he will sign an executive order to “immediately stop all government censorship and bring back freedom of expression” to the country.
