Deported from the US complained of the heat inside the equipment in Manaus and triggered lock to open door, which is forbidden and put everyone at risk

Several Brazilians being deported from the United States to Brazil on January 24, 2025 made a protest when the plane that brought them made a scale in Manaus (AM). They complained about the internal heat in the equipment. Some triggered the emergency door, went out, and protested on the plane’s wing.

The emergency exit once triggered makes the aircraft difficult to continue the flight. A number of safety procedures need to be followed before the plane can travel. There are areas in the wing where it is forbidden to walk because the piece can be damaged.

In the images released on the internet, you can see several Brazilians about the wing of the plane, protesting.

In an interview with journalists, the deported passenger Carlos Vinícius de Jesus, from the city of Vespasiano (MG), says the following: “The propeller was not working, he did not turn on the air conditioner. We had to open the doors. He had a child feeling sick, he had lords of age. I had to climb on the propeller. ” In fact, the Brazilian was confused by saying that he fixed the propeller of the plane. The images show that those who protested were on the wing.

Another passenger of the deported group, Jefferson Maia, reports being assaulted by one of the US immigration agents. It implies that the aggression was with the agent grabbing him by the neck in reaction to the protests inside the plane when the equipment scale in Manaus. “Until they managed to take the security lock [da porta de emergência] And we went out, through the wing of the plane ”says Jefferson.

Deportations

The Brazilians arrived in Manaus on Friday (24.jan) and are part of the first wave of the country after the (Republican Party), on Monday (20.jan). The US government chartered plane had Belo Horizonte as a final destination, but had to undergo maintenance in Manaus (AM). The Brazilian government sent a plane from the FAB (Brazilian Air Force) to complete the route.
They traveled handcuffed to Brazil, when the Minister of Justice, Ricardo Lewandowski, the withdrawal of the device. Governors criticized the measure of the US government.

In the United States, however, when someone is under the custody of the state for committing an infraction – in illegally entered the country – the standard procedure is to be handcuffed when transported from one place to another.

No matter the severity of the offense: Everyone needs to have limited movements. In some cases, the handcuffs are placed on the wrists and ankles of those who are detained. This is done to protect police officers from eventual attacks from the prisoners – inclusive during flights.

As in Manaus was a FAB aircraft that continued the route to Belo Horizonte, the deported ones were already under Brazilian jurisdiction and it would no longer be necessary to use handcuffs or follow the legal procedures of the US. Strictly speaking, the order of the Ministry of Justice only expressed something that would happen anyway.

According to the calculation of Poder360the deported are Brazilians who were mostly arrested in the US for being in the country irregularly and can no longer resort to US courts.

AGREEMENT

These deportations are part of an agreement signed in 2018, During the government of the then president (MDB), starting in 2019. That is, they are unrelated to the measures signed by the Republican.
