The mayor of, João Henrique Caldas (PL), has given protagonism to the deputy mayor and former senator Rodrigo Cunha (Somos), during the beginning of the second term ahead of the city.
Cunha is also municipal secretary of infrastructure, one of the main folders of the city.
JHC, as the mayor is known, has taken the deputy to inspect works and participate in announcements of new actions in Maceió. The two were also, on the 17th, in São Paulo, to participate in the private partnership auction for the construction and management of the Maceió Administrative Complex.
Rodrigo Cunha left the end of 2024, after almost six years of office, to take over the position of deputy mayor. In his place, he took office Eudocia Caldas (PL-AL), who was first alternate, mother of JHC.
As secretary, one of Cunha’s main showcases is the construction of the green line in Maceió. With 31% of the works completed, the road will be 2.3 km long and will have two bridges, roundabout, sidewalks and bike lanes. The goal is to improve urban mobility in the city.

The Senate exchange for the position of Deputy Mayor has not been for nothing, as there is a prospect that Rodrigo Cunha assumes the City of Maceió in April 2026. This is because JHC is quoted to dispute the government of Alagoas or the Senate.
JHC and Rodrigo Cunha are part of the opposition to the political group of the Calheiros in Alagoas. The current governor Paulo Dantas () has already been reelected in 2022, after a tax mandate. The most quoted to be a candidate for governor for the ruling field is the Minister of Transport, the licensed senator, who ruled the state between 2015 and 2022.
The minister’s father, (MDB) will try the fifth term of senator in next year. In the opposition field, one of the quotes to compete in the Senate is Arthur Lira (PP-AL), which will leave the presidency of the House in early February.
