The group that traveled on the FAB aircraft is made up of 158 migrants, including 88 Brazilians, who made the journey free of handcuffs, by order of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski
The plane carrying the deported Brazilians arrived, this Saturday (25), at 9:10 pm, at Confins International Airport, in Belo Horizonte (MG). The group on the plane is made up of 158 migrants, including 88 Brazilians. The KC-30 aircraft, from the Second Squadron of the Second Transport Group (2nd/2nd GT – Corsair Squadron), took off from Manaus at 4:40 pm (local time) with the deportees who arrived in Brazil on Friday (24), but needed stop in Manaus due to a failure on the United States plane, which prevented the flight from continuing to Confins Airport, in Belo Horizonte. In response to the situation, President Lula activated a Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft to guarantee transportation. FAB organized the transfer of migrants, with the presence of health professionals to ensure their well-being during the journey.
Unlike the flight to Brazil, in which the Brazilians were handcuffed and chained by their feet, the passengers were free, by order of Minister Ricardo Lewandowski, who ordered the removal of the handcuffs. He informed President Lula about the attempt by US authorities to keep Brazilian citizens in handcuffs during the repatriation flight, considering this practice a “flagrant disrespect” for human rights. FAB’s decision to search for the deportees was carried out this Saturday morning at the request of the Federal Government. Upon arriving in Manaus, the deportees were welcomed by the Federal Police, who removed their handcuffs and welcomed the deportees who received food and temporary accommodation while awaiting transport.
