Tartar Dough: Bake it into a potato pie that’s great both hot and cold

There are never enough recipes for tasty meals that don’t take the last money out of our wallets before payday. We can try, for example, an excellent potato pie made from tartar dough.

We probably mostly use tartare for fries or steaks, but did you know that it can also become one of the main ingredients for preparing dough? If you want to bake a potato cake, don’t forget to get it. It has a very important place in the list of ingredients.

What will we need?

Why put tartare in the dough? It’s simple: thanks to its composition, it gives the finished dish a delicacy, a refined taste, and also suppleness. That’s why we prepare approximately 4 heaping spoons of it for 4 medium-sized potatoes. We will also need 400 grams of plain flour, 20 grams of yeast and 100 ml of lukewarm milk. Finally, we will also add a mixture of grated cheeses and a sprig of thyme will also do a good job. Of course, we don’t forget salt and possibly spices to taste.

Easy dough preparation

We have the raw materials ready, nothing prevents us from getting to work. The first task will be to cook the potatoes in their skins, and once they cool down, we will have to peel them and grate them into a large enough bowl on a fine grater. Once this base is ready, let the yeast rise in lukewarm milk, which we then add, like all other ingredients except cheese, to the potatoes and make a smooth mass.

The dough must rise

Let the resulting dough rise for at least half an hour. After this time, we will transfer it to a well-oiled cake form and play a bit with its arrangement so that it perfectly fills all its parts. Then comes the right moment to sprinkle with cheese and decorate with thyme, which not only beautifies the cake, but also smells wonderful.

It remains to bake a delicacy

Anyone expecting some more complicated steps will probably be disappointed at this point. We are at the end of the preparation and the only thing left to do is put the cake in the oven, heated to 180°C, to rest for forty-five minutes. After this time, it will be done, the kitchen will smell good and the plates will definitely be ready on the table where the eager diners will sit.

The great advantage of this recipe is the possibility to change it and improve it according to your own tastes and imagination, which – as is known – has no limits. Do you like garlic dishes? No problem, just add it to the batter. Are you missing even a piece of meat in the recipe? Again, it’s not something that can’t be solved. For example, you can fry diced high-quality bacon in a pan in advance, which you can either add to the dough or sprinkle on top instead of cheese (or together with it). Vegetarians can use different colored peppers instead of bacon, and the cake will take on a completely different look.

There is also a more dietary form in the game

The truth is that among the recipes there are also those that have a lower caloric value. This is mainly due to the addition of tartar, because potatoes are dietary beneficial in themselves. That’s why it’s not written anywhere that we can’t replace part of the tartar with low-fat yogurt, and we’ll create a variant that’s more acceptable even for sworn dieters.
