The Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) stated this Saturday that it is “more likely” that the COVID-19 pandemic COVID-19 had its origin in a laboratory leak in Chinainstead of coming from a natural source, a change of position that contrasts with his previous statement, in which he maintained that both scenarios were equally possible.
“The CIA assesses with low confidence that an origin related to the investigation of the COVID-19 pandemic “is more likely a natural origin according to the set of available reports”said a spokesperson for the agency in a statement collected by the Bloomberg agency.
This change of posture takes place after arrival at the address of John Ratcliffechosen by President Donald Trump. In an interview with Breitbart a day after his arrival, Ratcliffe said the CIA’s assessment of the origins of COVID-19 would be “a day one thing.”
According to the spokesperson, the CIA continues to evaluate both origin scenarios as plausible and will evaluate any available intelligence reports or open source information that may change your evaluation.
The report was prepared weeks before Ratcliffe’s arrival, during the Biden Administrationafter former director Bill Burns urged the agency to take a stance one way or the other. Ratcliffe decided to declassify the evaluation.
President Trump has previously used the term “China virus” and has endorsed similar rhetoric on several occasions.
