The South Korean Prosecutor’s Office has announced the imputation of the suspended president of the country, Yoon Suk Yeolwithin the framework of the investigation by the failed declaration of martial law promulgated on December 3 by the president, now stripped of his functions, in a decision that has unleashed a historic political storm in the country.
Yoon faces, according to the specifications collected by the official South Korean news agency, Yonhap, an accusation of conspiring with the then defense minister, Kim Yong Hyun, to incite an insurrection through the declaration of martial law and of the deployment of military forces in the National Assembly, the South Korean Parliament, to prevent the deputies from knocking down the decree, as ended up happening within a few hours.
With this accusation, the president has become the first president of the country charged with insurrection under detention and suspension of functions.
The president, who is still considered as such until the Constitutional Court of the country decides otherwise, was arrested on January 19 after refusing on several occasions to respond to the Court and the arrest order expired in a matter of hours.
