The historical rivalry between Flamengo and Vasco was evident during the confrontation valid for the quarterfinals of Super 8 Basketball, held on Sunday afternoon (26), in Maracanãzinho, in Rio de Janeiro.
The match, won by Flamengo for 92 to 73, was marked by unfortunate scenes, culminating in the temporary withdrawal of the Vasca team during the last period.
The game was interrupted for about 30 minutes after the red-black crowd throws objects toward the delegation.
The Vasca team alleged a lack of security for athletes and coaching staff and chose to withdraw from the gym momentarily. After negotiation and in the face of the risk of punishment for abandonment, the team returned to complete the match.
Confusion on the court and expulsions
The tense climate was already drawing before the stoppage, with a disagreement between Humberto, from Vasco, and Galizzi, from Flamengo. During the rebound dispute, Humberto pushed the opponent, starting a confusion that involved players from both teams. After a long analysis of the bid by the arbitration, the two athletes were expelled at the end of the third quarter.
The tension climbed when Marquinhos, from Flamengo, was excluded after arguing heatedly with coach Gustavo de Conti, also red-black.
Moment and next commitment
With the victory, Flamengo secured a place in the semifinals of Super 8 and will face the winner of the duel between Franca and Pinheiros, scheduled for this Sunday (26), at 16h (Brasilia).
