Worsening weather conditions: Civil Protection raises the level of special alert status

Strong rain and wind, with gusts of up to 110 km/h, rough seas and snowfall expected from Sunday afternoon.

Persistent rain and strong winds, with gusts of up to 110 km/h, in the north and center of the country, sea disturbances until January 30 and snowfall raise the alert level from 6 pm.

In a press conference this morning, Civil Protection operations deputy, Carlos Mata, explained what led to the decision to raise the alert level.

The snowfall raised the alert for Coimbra, Beiras and Serra da Estrela. A warning to the population.

From this afternoon until the early hours of Monday, IPMA placed under orange warningdue to persistent and sometimes heavy rain, the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Porto, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.

Already under yellow warning due to strong wind are between today and Monday all districts of the country, while the snowfall will place under this same alert level, from Monday afternoon, the districts of Braga, Bragança, Castelo Branco, Guarda, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.

IPMA predicts for today the occurrence of rain, increasing in intensity from the afternoon onwards and being persistent in the North.
